Design Team Expert Wendy Sue shares her instructions and photo step-outs for creating diagonal lines with patterned paper for a layout. Give her technique a try!
Hi, Echo Park Friends! It’s Wendy Sue here on the blog today with a little layout and tutorial to share. I created this layout with EP’s brand new For the Record 2 "Documented" collection.
I used strips of patterned paper to create the diagonal
stripes on the bottom portion of the page and I wanted to show you how quick
and easy it is to do it yourself!
First, choose a piece of cardstock for your background and draw a line across it at the height you want your diagonal design to begin. I marked my paper at 4 ¼”.
Now cut several strips of paper. Remember there are designs
on the front AND the back! I cut two of
each paper at 1 ¼” (but you can cut them any width you like).

Now go ahead and place your first strip. The only trick is to make sure you start in the corner, and make sure there is no white (background) showing above the top of your first strip. Glue it down and don’t worry about the overhanging portion.
Continue adding the strips. Just make sure to cover the
background completely. It doesn’t matter
if the strips go above the pencil line.
Add strips until the entire background is covered.
Now flip the page over and use scissors to trim off the
excess.
This is what the front will look like when it’s all trimmed.
And
now you can add patterned paper to the top portion of the cardstock to complete
your background.
This is a really easy technique to use when you want to
create a bold, colorful background; and you’ll get a fun, unique look every
time!
