Alter a Christmas Sled with Linda Auclair!

As soon as our Halloween festivities are over, our thoughts immediately turn to holiday planning and decorating for Christmas. Decking our halls is a family activity, and we add new ornaments to our collection every year. We have an artificial tree because of allergies, which allows us to decorate as early as we want without having to worry about the tree shedding its needles all over the carpet before advent even starts. Unpacking the decorations together is the best part of our tradition. Each precious ornament is carefully unwrapped, and remarked upon. If there is a story behind its creation, it is told. Our tree is like a treasured scrapbook of family memories, with ornaments dating back from the year my son Jonathan was born, 1987. Each year the painted pinecone ornament he made in pre-K is carefully unwrapped and hung alongside Brigid’s cinnamon Christmas tree cut-out ornament, and Aileen’s “Baby’s First Christmas” mouse and so many more.

 

This year there will be a new ornament in a place of honor on our tree: this sweetly nostalgic decorated wooden sled.  It was easy to assemble using papers from the new “Style Essentials 6x6 paper pad” and chipboard and stickers from the “Reflections: Christmas” collection.

  Instructions:

• Remove twine hanger and paint the sled white.

• Trim three strips of patterned paper from the 6x6 paper pad to cover the surface of the sled. Adhere the strips and trim away excess.

• Embellish with stickers from Element Sticker sheet, chipboard, and brad as shown.

• Tie several jingle bells to a length of baker’s twine and wrap around sled runner.  Use baker’s twine to hang from tree.

Create a "Keepin' Cozy" Card Trio with Laurel Seabrook!

I love the peaceful feeling of the "Keepin’ Cozy" collection so I tried to create a trio of cards that convey that feeling.   

 

 

To create the "Winter Fun" card I just layered a piece of the pattern paper and a chicken wire die cut from cardstock. Then I stitched them together and then added the stamped image and stickers. It was very easy.

 

For the "Peace" card, once again, I just layered patterned paper and die cut cardstock with a bit of stitching. I then cut the tree out of felt, adhered and stitched some sequins to the card and then added the vellum snowflake and die cut sentiment.

 

Finally, for the "#cool" card, I punched and layered circles of pattern paper, added a few vellum snowflakes and then stitched them in place. I then added a die cut felt snowflake to the card. I painted the chipboard sentiment then added some glitter to it as well. Finally I stamped the sentiment on the mini tag, tied it to the chipboard and stapled it to the card.

 

As a note: I always create card fronts then adhere to a card base so that the stitching and stapling is not seen from the inside.
