Altered DIY Easter Blocks with Holly

 

Holly here sharing with you an Easter Greetings home decor project made out of wood blocks, paint and Echo Park's "Hippity Hoppity" Mini Theme Kit. 

 

Despite the weather being awful around the country, Spring has already started to arrived in Southern Nevada.  The trees are blooming. The days are getting warmer and it's time to think about Spring Decor.  

 

To make this home decor project, I cut wood blocks in various sizes, painted them with DecoArt paints and embellished the blocks with buttons, paper and stickers from the "Hippity Hoppity" collection.  

 

 

 

Echo Park has a variety of Easter themed cut files to choose from along with ones that coordinate with the Hippity Hoppity collection too.  I used Echo Park's  Easter Basket Cut File to make this cute basket full of eggs.

One Collection, Two Designers: "Summer Adventure" Mini Theme

Today we asked two of our amazing designers to take the "Summer Adventure" Mini Theme collection and create a project with it. This is a fun way to see how other designers are inspired by certain elements, love certain papers, and approach their design.

The first card is from designer Aly Dosdall:

I love the Summer Adventure Mini Theme because it’s the perfect collection for our family vacations to the beach. But this collection also inspires me to think of sunshine, hope, and happiness. When I saw the “here comes the sun” journaling card on the Beach Journaling paper, I immediately thought it would make a great get well card.

The second designer that worked with this collection is Tania Willis. Here's her project and what she had to say about the collection:

The phrase on the journaling card in this collection was the thing that inspired me and sent my creative juices flowing. When I read “Here comes the Sun” on the card it immediately made me think of the sun rising to greet me for the day and I instantly knew that I wanted to create a sunrise scene on my card. All that took was some adhesive-backed orange mini rhinestones added to the journaling card to mimic the rays of the sun. A simple embellishment that packs a very powerful visual punch!

Pinwheel Tutorial with Tania Willis

Hello, friends! It’s Tania here with you today to show you to how make a simple overstated pinwheel embellishment to add whimsical touch to your next layout. Once you see how simple it really is, you’ll be adjusting the size of your beginning square to make them smaller or larger to suit your embellishing needs. While, I love the look of this oversized pinwheel, the mini ones really capture my heart.

Tutorial:

To get started, you’ll need to start with a square of patterned paper measuring 4” x 4”. Then, use a pencil to place a small dot in the middle of your square. Next, use a pair of scissors to cut from each point of your square in toward the middle dot, but stopping approximately ¼” from the dot. I eyeball the path of my cut, but if you want a perfectly straight cut you can use a ruler to draw faint lines from corner to opposing corner as a guideline prior to cutting.

 

Then, take the same point on all four sides and fold it in toward the center and adhere the point to the center pencil dot. I always fold in the left corner, rotate my square 90 degrees, fold in the left corner, rotate my square, etc.  Glue dots are best for holding these in place.

 

Lastly, embellish the center of your pinwheel with a brad, rhinestone or stack of buttons. If you want to take it even a step further for a more finished look, you can use a bamboo skewer, or paper straw for larger pinwheels and toothpicks for smaller ones to help anchor it to your project.

Watering Can and Butterfly Card Silhouette Tutorial with Corri

Hi everyone!  Corri here today with a pretty gift set that I made with the new “Splendid Sunshine” Collection and some of the coordinating Echo Park die cuts from the Silhouette Store.

I love Spring and was inspired by the garden theme of the paper collection. I used a die cut watering can that I found in the Silhouette Store as the base for my 3d project. You could also use a paper mache watering can from your local craft store as a base.

 

I used my Silhouette Cameo to cut is beautiful flower bunch file, the enjoy life banner and this butterfly.  I inked up the edges of the layers before gluing these together and attached the flower bunch and banner to the front of the can with foam dots. I applied a glue dot the center of the butterfly so that the wings could be lifted up. 

Everyone loves shaped cards and nothing says Spring like butterflies. Follow along with the instructions below to make this quick butterfly card.

 

Open the butterfly file and resize to 4.5”h making sure that the keep aspect ratio box is checked.

 

Next, select the butterfly and click on the offset icon along the top to create a shadow layer of your shape.

 

You can now drag the inner butterfly shape off your mat.  Move the offset to the lower left corner of your mat.  Click on the replicate window along the top and select “mirror above”. 

 

Click on the top butterfly shape to select it and use your arrow keys on the keyboard to move it down just a little.  Select both butterfly shapes and click on the modify button and select weld. 

 

Now you are ready to cut your card base.     I cut the base, the 4.5”w butterfly layer and one smaller butterfly at 2.65”w and embellished the card with a sticker from the collection and some pearls. 

You can use this technique to create a shaped card out of any simple shape.  Check out all the fabulous Echo Park shapes in the Silhouette Store HERE to make shaped card for any occasion.

We're Wild About Cards!

Hi everyone! Lisa here today to share some cards I made with the "wildly" adorable "Day at the Zoo" mini collection.

 

This first card could be used to say "I love you" or as a child's birthday card. I couldn't resist dressing the adorable bear up a bit with some pearls and ribbon.

 

This second card is a birthday party invitation. I stitched a piece from the Animal Journaling paper ("We're Going To The Zoo") to the front of the card. It acts as a pocket to hold a "ticket" to the zoo. Party details are printed on the inside of the card:

 

It’s a “jungle” out there, so let’s go “wild”

celebrating Alexa’s 3rd birthday.

All “party animals” are invited to “hang out”
