The design team at Echo Park Paper recently collaborated with the team at Scrapbook Generation's Create Magazine to put together an extra special issue! The April issue, featuring Echo Park Paper, is 227-pages and includes 40 pages of inspiration from the Echo Park Paper design team. You'll also find lots of photos and "fun facts" about Echo Park Paper - you might be surprised about some of the "behind-the-scenes" information we are sharing. 

If you aren't already familiar with Create Magazine, let me tell you a little bit about it.

Passport Cover Tutorial with Corri

Hi everyone! Corri here today sharing a Passport Cover that I made with new Getaway Collection.  This would be a fun way to keep your passport protected and the extra pocket could hold a few other doctuments such as luggage claim tickets.

Here’s how I made it.

First, trim a piece of chipboard to 5-1/2”h x 12”w. Score it at 2-1/4”, 6” & 9-3/4”.

Next, fold on the score lines to create two flaps. Stitch them down in the four corners with your sewing machine. You could also use a strong adhesive here like Scor-Tape.

Trim pattern paper to cover the chipboard. Cut two pieces at 5-1/2”h x 2-1/8”w and two at 5-1/2”h x 3-5/8”w.   Ink the edges and glue the panels in place.

Wrap a piece of ribbon around the folder and secure with Scor-Tape. Trim two pieces of pattern paper to 5-1/4” x 3-1/2” and glue down over the ribbon on the front and back.

I embellished the front of my cover with some chipboard stickers from the Getaway Collection and cut an Echo Park ticket file from the Silhouette store.

Creating Subway Art Using an Echo Park Digital Kit

Hello, everyone! My name is Rachael, and I’m here to show you how to create subway art using digital products created by Echo Park. Because I live in San Diego, and summer is my favorite season, I decided to make a summer-themed project using the gorgeous kit Summer Bliss, by Echo Park.

I started with a blank, paper-sized document, using the default settings for the preset “U.S. Paper” in Photoshop.

 

Next, I opened one of the multi-colored word strips from the kit, to use for color sampling.

 

I selected the type tool and proceeded to type various summer-based phrases and words. For each new phrase, I selected a new color from the word strip file and created a new layer. Eventually, I had a good selection of phrases and decided I was ready for the next step.

 

To help with alignment, I turned on the grid (ctrl+’ in Windows; command+’ in Mac), and added some guidelines. To add a vertical guideline, simply click your mouse on the vertical ruler and drag to the location you wish to add the guideline. To add a horizontal guideline, simply click and drag from the horizontal ruler.

 

After setting the guidelines, I then edited each phrase to adjust the font size and tracking (spacing between characters) until the phrase fit exactly within the two lines.

 

I repeated this adjustment for each layer, leaving an occasional space for graphics.

 

I wanted to use a heart in one of the phrases, so I found this cute heart in the Echo Park element kit “Life is Good”. To make sure the heart matched the rest of the elements, I clipped the red paper from the Summer Bliss kit to the heart layer.

 

After adjusting each of the phrases and getting the placement right, I was ready for the final step: adding a few stickers.

Once I was happy with the final result, I selected all layers and resized the art to fill up more of the document space. That’s it! The subway art is now ready for printing and framing, or can be resized and used on a digital layout. To download a pdf copy of this subway art, click here.

 

A Cheerful Spring Gift Box Tutorial with Corri

Hi everyone! Corri here today, sharing a fun Spring gift idea using the Summer Bliss Collection. I am so excited that Echo Park has added some 3-dimensional projects to their portfolio in the Silhouette Store. The scallop basket is so cute and very easy to assemble.  First, resize the basket to 11.5”h so that it fits on the mat. Once you have it cut out, simply fold on the score lines and apply glue on the four glue tabs holding the tabs in place as they dry.  Finally, attach the handle with brads.  That’s it.  It goes together in just a couple of minutes. 

I added a tag to my basket from this set of Echo Park labels and embellished it with three flowers.

These carrot boxes are so adorable and are a perfect match for my sentiment.  These would be great for classroom treats for Easter or as favors for a garden themed party. These are also very easy to put together. Cut the carrot portion out, fold on the score lines and apply glue along the glue tab. To form the top, roll the stem with a pair of fine point tweezers and apply glue to the end.  Once the glue dries, secure the stem to the top of the carrot.

How to Create an Altered Cork Sign with Holly!

Holly here from Ribbons & Glue sharing a Arrow Sign Cork Board made from Echo Park Paper's "Getaway" collection.  

 

 

Summertime mean vacations and Summer vacation to my family means Road Trip. Inspired by our family's annual road trip, I used the "Getaway" collection to make a home decor project that will remind of us our big family adventure ahead. 

 

 

 

The arrow is cut from an Echo Park Arrow Sign cut file, matted with patterned paper and adhered with foam squares on to a small cork board I purchased at a Dollar Store. 

 

 

 

I used my Silhouette again to cut out the  Compass Symbol cut file and embellished the Arrow Sign with Getaway Alphas, Element Stickers, jute, ribbon, star stick pin and wood thumb tacks.

Introducing Our New Design Team Coordinator Wendy Sue Anderson!

Please join with me in welcoming our NEW Design Team Coordinator for both the Carta Bella Paper and Echo Park Paper Design Teams: Wendy Sue Anderson. We're so excited to have her as part of our "family," and we can't wait to see what she brings to both brands. We thought you'd like to get to know her a little better, so we asked her to introduce herself.

Hi! I'm Wendy Sue Anderson and I am thrilled to be introducing myself to you today. I live in a little mountain valley in Utah, about 40 minutes away from Echo Park /Carta Bella Headquarters. My handsome husband, Brad, and I recently celebrated our 20th anniversary (which means I've now been married over half of my life!). We have four awesome kiddos: Meagan (16), Josh (14), Seth (10), and Zach (8). It's likely you'll be getting to know them through my scrapbook pages in the very near future! I've been involved in the scrapbook industry, in one way or another, for about 14 years; but I've been paper-crafting since I was a little girl. My mom is super crafty, and always involved us with her fun projects!  I love every aspect of this industry: scrapbook pages, cards, gift packaging, decor all of it! A few years ago, I started writing monthly articles for a magazine which allowed me to combine my love for writing with my love for creating, a match made in heaven! I am an alumni Echo Park design team member, and I am thrilled to be joining the company again in this capacity where I get to write and create together again! I can't wait to get creative with our awesome team and all of you!

Guest Designer: Kandis Smith Featuring the "Getaway" Collection

This "Getaway" collection was so fun to work with. The colors were bright but also had an old world feel to them. The chipboard stickers and embellishments really brought the projects together with their vintage flair and dimension. The papers were perfect for any photos. I decided to make my photos black and white to add to the vintage feel of the collection.
