Hello, friends! It’s Tania with you again today to share a really fun stamping technique using the Through The Year Collection along with the Calendar Stamp Designer Stamps Set. I am going to walk you through how to make those custom snowflakes stamped on the background of my layout. If you don’t consider yourself a ‘stamper’, don’t worry, this technique is incredibly easy.
What makes these snowflakes extra special is that they are not only an embellishment to my page, but they double as a memory trigger to remind me of the date that the photos were taken: January 10. If you wanted, you could even add the year, so instead of stamping three 10’s in a row, you could stamp 102013 to represent a photo being taken January 10, 2013. Now that you know the concept behind the stamping technique, you can customize it just for your specific photos.
Here’s a look at the stamp set we’ll be using. Again, it’s called Calendar Stamp Designer Stamps. You’ll also need an acrylic block and an ink pad. I personally think the Designer Stamps perform best using Staz-On ink pads, but that’s just my personal preference.
For this particular stamped embellishment, we’re going to start with a star stamped in the center. If you don’t feel comfortable stamping directly on the background of your layout, consider stamping on a separate piece of cardstock and then adhering it to your layout. If you want it to look stamped on the background without actually stamping on the background, then stamp your design onto a sheet of transparency or acetate that you can trim around and then later adhere to your layout.
After stamping your star, you are going to choose a number and stamp a line of numbers projecting from the point of each star. Through trial and error, I found that 6 digits looks best, so you’ll stamp 6 times for a single digit number and 3 times for a double digit number from EACH point.
Finally, you’re going to choose your month stamp and stamp it once in the space between each point.
After stamping between each point, your finished embellishment will look similar to this one here. From here you can embellish it further with glitter glue, small rhinestones, brads, etc.
You’ll notice on my layout, I created one exactly like this tutorial and then I created a smaller version that falls off the right side of the layout. For that version, instead of stamping ‘January’ in the space between the numbers, I simply stamped more numbers, but instead of stamping 6 digits, I only stamped 4.
I think these make the most perfect snowflake embellishments, but would also look darling on a Fourth of July layout since they look like fireworks exploding, as well. The possibilities for customization are endless! If you use this technique, be sure to post your finished project to the Echo Park Paper Facebook Page!
