Hello! Courtney here today and I am sharing a fun and smile worthy card created with the Sweet Summertime Collection. The fun colors in the Sweet Summertime Collection made me think of fresh fruit on a summer day which led me to the Fruit Stand Die Set from the Homegrown Collection. The great thing about Designer Dies is that you can mix and match the collections - you can easily use the dies with more than just their coordinating paper collections.
To create the yellow inked background apply dye ink to a craft mat and spray with a bit of water. Lightly press the card front into the ink for a second or two. I was happy with my first try, but you can continue to press the card front into the ink until the desired look is achieved.
After the ink has dried completely - mine took about half an hour - trim a strip of patterned paper and machine stitch to the bottom of the card front.
Next up is all of the die cut pieces from the Fruit Stand Die Set - I die cut all of these when the ink was drying on my card. Some of these die cut pieces are tiny or intricate, like the watermelon seeds and the pineapple. When die cutting tiny and/or intricate shapes it is helpful to apply a piece of adhesive sheet to the back of the paper before die cutting, then you won’t have to worry about applying adhesive to the shapes after they are cut.
After cutting out all of the die cut pieces assemble the fruit and adhere to the card front. I found it easiest to assemble each piece of fruit first, then adhere to the card.
Next step is to create the ‘Smile’ sentiment using the letters die cut with the ‘summertime’ die sentiment in the Summertime Scene Die Set. To create the letter ‘l’ trim off part of the letter ‘u’ or the letter ‘m’.
To finish the card, adhere the ‘smile’ sentiment above the watermelon and add a few yellow enamel dots around the scene. Round the bottom left corner with a corner punch for a bit more added interest.
