It’s hard to believe that fall is approaching and it’s time to start planning and decorating for some of my favorite holidays! Today I’m going to share a spooky Halloween card set with you that I made using the new Hocus Pocus collection and the coordinating Designer Bat Stencil.
I used the bat stencil to create a background for my cards in two different ways. I’ll show you how—it’s super easy! First, I used the stencil with some walnut spray ink on smooth white cardstock. Before spraying I added some repositionable adhesive to the back of the stencil to keep it in place and to keep the spray ink from leaking underneath it.
Then I sprayed an even coat of ink so that the bat design showed up clearly. The walnut ink adds a more vintage, distressed look which is perfect for the look of the Hocus Pocus collection. Finally I gently pulled up the stencil and waited for the ink to dry before finishing off my card.
The second way I used the stencil was with a watermark resist technique. After cleaning off my stencil, I placed it on another piece of cardstock and then applied watermark ink generously over the entire stencil. (My repositionable adhesive was still tacky, but you may need to reapply yours after cleaning.)
After gently lifting up the stencil I rolled an ink brayer over a dye ink pad until it was fully covered. Then I rolled the brayer over the area where the stencil had been. I reapplied ink and rolled some more until I achieved an even coating of dye ink. The watermark ink resisted the dye ink and left the bat images visible.
After applying the dye ink I wiped it with a paper towel a few times to make sure there wasn’t any excess that would get messy. Then I finished up my card.
