Hello, Anya here with you today to share a new project I made for Thanksgiving using the “Fall is in the Air” collection . We are always looking for ways to add more meaning to our Holidays. This year, we want to start a new family tradition – a Gratitude Calendar. For the month of November, every day each family member will write a little note about what he/she is grateful for, or a little Thank You note to one of the family members. We will read these notes together at the Thanksgiving dinner.
I made this calendar with three pockets – one for each week leading to Thanksgiving Day. Also, I made my pockets big enough to include lots of notes, since we have a big family!
To make the first panel and pocket, I cut an 8 x 12 piece of plain cardstock, and folded a 12 x 12 piece of Journaling Cards pattern paper over it. Before gluing it down, I decorated the front part of the panel first. From the Sweater Weather pattern paper I cut a 7 x 11 piece and glued it in the center. From Ultra White Designer Cardstock I cut a 6 x 10 piece, punched a half circle with a circle punch and adhered three sides of the pocket to the main piece. Using a sewing machine, I stitched around three sides of the pocket and adhered the whole page to the cardstock piece. Also, I covered the back panel with an additional 6 x 12 piece of craft cardstock.
To have a little more cohesive look throughout my Gratitude Calendar, I repeated some design elements on each panel. I began each cluster of embellishments with a circle piece cut from the Thankful Owls pattern paper, accompanied by a smaller circle of matching pattern paper and an Outlined Pumpkin Die.
I decorated each panel abundantly with a lot of die cut leaves. To make them, I used the Autumn Leaves Designer Die to cut out leaf shapes from the Solids Kit paper and inked the edges with red ink to give them a more realistic look.
To connect all the panels together, I used large brads and metal rings. By making this Calendar in four panels, it allows you to fold it flat for easy storage.
To finish this project I added stickers, chipboard pieces and enamel dots. Also, I used Glossy Accents to add “rain drops” on the leaves and opposite corners from designs. I hope I’ve inspired you to create a similar project and make your Holidays more meaningful.
