It’s Lydia Cost today, and I’m sharing an altered book that I created using the lovely I Love Easter collection. I don’t normally do much memory keeping during the Easter season for some reason, so I wanted to do something extra special in preparation for this spring.
What better way than to prepare a little book in advance, so that I can simply add my photos and journaling later! I’ll have no excuse when Easter rolls around. For this little book, I recycled the cutest little Golden Book, Peter Rabbit. I found it on a thrift store shelf, and I knew I had to swipe it up for 50 cents.
To alter this little Golden Book, I simply cut off the covers with my utility knife and handmade a new spine out of washi and chipboard. This is so simple to do when you find a beautiful book cover that you want to use in a crafty project. The options are limitless.
I added some pretty character to my spine with the amazing carrot patterned paper in the I Love Easter collection. Paired with an orange washi and some pom-pom trim, my little book’s exterior came together effortlessly.
For the interior pages, I decided on an even 14 pages to add lots of dimension to my altered book. There are many ways to add pages to an altered book, but I chose to add mine in with ribbon. I did this by simply punching holes through the front, spine, and back cover near the top and bottom corners, so that the ribbon could be strung through all my internal pages. I picked a pretty Easter-worthy yellow ribbon to bring even more character to the book.
I used all of the patterned papers in the collection kit to create my internal pages. I even made sure to add back in some of the Peter Rabbit story and illustrations, when the color scheme suited the patterned paper opposite it. I think this made for a really lovely, whimsical look. Some edges of pages I lined with pom-pom trim, and some of them I punched with a border trim to add extra dimension. These little details lend themselves to a one-of-a kind altered book.
I finished off by laying down some foundation pages for Easter memories. 6x8 is such a universal scrapbooking size, that it will be a breeze to do some documenting on these spreads. I can’t wait to fill them up lots of beautiful Easter photos and memories!
