Hello there, lovely friends; It’s Lydia Cost today. Today I’m sharing something new for me, and I had so much fun learning how to do something new! As I was working through a weekly planner spread, I thought to myself that I really wanted to give making my own paper clips a go. The All Girl collection has some of the cutest dies, and I knew they would be perfect for stitching together some handmade felt paper clips.
I got out my die-cut machine and three of my favorite dies in the collection, the unicorn, narwhal, and the rainbow. Next I gather some fabric scraps that I could use to cut out the pieces to make each illustration. Scraps of fabric are perfect for these, because the shapes are less than 4” in width and height. Small fabric quarters from your local craft store will work just fine too!
After cutting out the pieces of fabric, I hand-sketched out the shape onto some stiff white felt to have a great backing for my paper clip. After using some PVA glue to adhere the pieces of fabric onto the felt, I ran them through my sewing machine for a whimsical look.
I adhered my paper clip and the back layer of felt with my hot glue gun, for a permanent fix. I really love the way that these turned out. I’ll be honest; these were a little more time-consuming that I thought they would be. Getting each little piece right, stitching, hand-stitching eyes, and gluing together made for several hours of labor, but it was so worth it. These little paper clips are just too cute, and I’m really proud of them.
They pair so prettily with this week’s planner spread. I made sure to use the fantastic Sticker Book in the All Girl collection, because I wanted to match my new planner paper clips to my weekly spread.
I love that the sticker book includes tons of illustrations, phrases, and strips of washi. It’s the perfect essential when it comes to my little planner spreads!
