Summer Camp Travelers Notebook Cover & Notebooks

Hello there again amazing crafty friends!  It’s Lydia Cost today, and I’m excited to be sharing another project with you.  This one was extra fun, and something new to me.  It was a total experiment, and I really love how it turned out!  I can’t wait to put it to use!

I knew that I wanted to cover some faux leather with some of the amazing papers in the Summer Camp collection, to create a pretty TN cover.  This was something that I have never attempted, so I knew there would be a few hiccups, but I still have a blast working out the details.

I chose that very pretty subdued floral paper to use as my cover, and I went to work trimming it to size.  I used my sewing machine to then stitch it onto my faux leather backing.  I chose a beautiful mustard color for my stitching, because I wanted to bring out that pretty color in the florals.  After I was finished stitching my cover onto my backing, I pulled out my heavy duty double-sided fabric tape.  This is perfect for adhering paper to a surface that will take a lot of impact and movement.

Next I went about attached some elastic, so that the TN cover could be held closed and also to hold TN notebooks on the inside.  This was a simple process; I simply used my punch tool to poke holes into my cover and spine area.  I made them wider by rotating my punch tool to widen the holes.  This made plenty of room to slip my elastic through each hole to create a place to hold my notebooks.

I finished up by covering my knot on the spine with a gold bead.  This helped hide the unsightly knot, and it added some extra character to the TN cover.  All that was left was to add a couple little charms to the closing elastic, and it transformed the whole paper TN cover into something I really love!

I finished off this fun project by creating some TN notebooks to match.  These will be perfect for documenting all my summer memories and fun camping trips.  I’m so excited to toss it into my bag and memory keep each trip.

Hey everyone,  Michelle here today with a new project to share using the  Carta Bella Summer Camp collection.  For this project I used the 3D Tent Box cut file from Lori Whitlock.  It was the perfect cut file for this collection.

 

 

3D projects are so fun to make!  I especially love to use the Carta Bella collections because the papers are so thick.  They make these projects very sturdy.  I took out my sharp scissors and fussy cut 3 banners from the pattern papers.  I added 2 to the trees in the back and one on the tent.

 

 

The tent itself was so cute I just added a few stickers and ephemera to embellish it.  

 

 

I really like the finished product.  I will be finding a place for this little project in my camper!

Vintage Inspired Luggage Set

Pack your bags, it's time for Summer Camp! Explore the wilderness and gather around the campfire with this charming new collection from Carta Bella. The retro inspired graphics and fun patterned papers are super-cute!! I'm Michelle Zerull, and today I'd like to share my vintage inspired luggage set made with papers and embellishments from the Summer Camp Collection.

 

 

My luggage set consists of two suitcases and a train case. The suitcases open and close with cute paper latches made from the Summer Camp Solids Kit. I embellished the latches with enamel dots left over from other Echo Park and Carta Bella collections. That's one of the great things about Echo Park; their collections coordinate perfectly!

 

The small suitcase opens to reveal a lining made from the "Wildflowers" Patterned Paper. You don't need to be a camper to love this floral. It will go with everything! 

 

 

The large suitcase opens to reveal an interior lined with the "Summer Camp Words" Patterned Papers and embellished with a faux-postcard from the "6X4 Journaling Cards" Patterned Paper. I love those postcards! I intend to stick a label on the back of the other ones and pop them in the mail. Just like a real camper! Won't they be surprised to find them in their mailbox?

 

 

The body of the little train case was made with the "Night Sky" Patterned Paper and the lid was made with the "Summer Camp Squares" Patterned Paper. Each 2-inch square is a miniature work of art depicting detailed camping and outdoor scenes. I used one of the "leftover" squares to make the cute tag in the small suitcase. I I adore those little squares! 

 

 

I thoroughly enjoyed making this project with the Summer Camp Collection. The hardest part was choosing which papers to use, because I love them all!

You Are Beautiful - A Flora No. 3 Collection Layout

Hey everyone,  Michelle here today with a new project using the Carta Bella  Flora No.3 collection and a cut file from Cut To You.  I love the thickness and texture of the Carta Bella papers, it works so well when backing up a cut file.

 

 

The beautiful sot colors in this collection compliment each other really well.  I love the touch of teal.  This photo of my daughter is actually a Halloween photo, she was dressed up as a ballerina.  The flower in her hair was bright pink so I softened the photo to make it match my papers.

 

 

I stitched around my heart a few times with my sewing machine.  I made them a little messy on purpose, for some reason I like it better that way! 

 

 

I wanted to keep this layout pretty simple.  I didn't want to hide the pretty papers in my cut file.  I just added a few pieces of ephemera and chipboard. 

 

 

I tend to add a lot of stuff on my layouts, but once in a while when I make one with minimal embellishments, I really like how it turns out!

Flora No. 3 Card Set

Hello there, lovely friends; It’s Lydia Cost today.  The sentiments in the Flora collection must be completely intentional; I think every floral collection needs a ton of beautiful sentiments to go along with it, because they pair so beautifully on cards.  Every time I see a gorgeous floral I instantly want to fussy cut it and hang it off the edge of a card for someone special.

For these three cards, I fussy-cut some of the florals from the “Bright Large Floral” paper.  This gorgeous watercolor floral paper was absolutely perfect for cutting out some stems and florals to weave into my project.  I knew I wanted to do three distinctly different cards, so I decided on three different color schemes based on the paper.  I went with a theme suited for the mauve color, one based on the peachy color, and then one with the bright pink.

My first card was based with the bright pink solid paper in the solids collection pack.  I then layered up a bunch of those fussy-cut florals in the corner.  Next I pulled out my stash of vintage buttons; I found several pretty buttons to match the florals.  I hand-stitched them on to add a pretty flair to the simple card.

My next card I wanted to do something with mixed media.  I lighted painted the back with a mustard colored watercolor, and then sponged in some pale pink ink with my blender.  I then positioned one of the great element stickers in the center, so that my sentiment was the first thing you see.  I then piled up a bunch of fussy-cut florals in a corresponding color scheme.  Some I adhered down with double-sided tape and others I added dimension with pop dots.

For my third card, I wanted to do something a little more complicated.  I fell madly in love with the finished product of this card.  I’m fairly certain I’m going to be recreating it time and time again, because the finished product is so very pretty.  This one is a tri-fold card, that is held closed by a pretty mauve button.  I used the “Bright Small Floral” paper to create my two main folds, and then I used the “Blue/Pink” solid paper to make my top flap.  I stitch around all the edges of the tri-fold card and then layered on some more florals on the flap.  I added a sentiment from the element sticker sheet, and this card was all ready to be sent to a friend!

I had such a blast creating these cards, and I’m so pleased with how they turned out.  The Flora #3 collection is so gorgeous, and the mauve color mixed in really does make all of it looks so lovely to me!  I hope my cards gave you a little inspiration to create this week.  Thanks as always for joining me here!

As a paper crafter, I love using Carta Bella Paper. It's sturdy as well as luxurious, and it's so easy to work with! Michelle Zerull here, and today I'd like to share a hinged stationery box that will hold four fun gatefold cards, made with the lovely Flora No.3 Collection by Carta Bella Paper. 

 

 

Flora No. 3 is rich with sentiments for every cardmaking occasion. And the artwork is beautiful! I made a stationery set of four gatefold cards to have on hand or give as a gift. Such a pretty way to say, "Thank You" or "Happy Birthday!" There are so many beautiful elements that it was hard to choose which ones to use!

 

 

Each card is held in place with a belly band and opens to reveal a place for a handwritten sentiment. The accent piece is a border strip from the Flora No.3 Element Sticker.

 

 

Layering the floral elements really brought this project to life. Stickers, ephemera, and chipboard, elevated my project to something that I am proud to give to my friends and family.

Mad Tea Party Layout

Hey everyone,  Michelle here today with a new  project using the  Alice in Wonderland No. 2 collection.  I had an instant plan on what I wanted to do with this collection!

 

 

I had these photos of my kids on the Mad Tea Party ride at Disney, they had so much fun on this ride.  We were spinning so fast I was afraid they would fly out!

 

I used an Echo Park cut file from the Silhouette store.  It was such a fun file and perfect for this collection!

 

I added the photos and some embellishments inside the cups so it would kinda recreate the ride at Disney.

 

 

I added a layer of vellum on top of the background and put in some sequins behind it.  It really created a fun look.

Hand Bound Alice In Wonderland Quote Journal

Hello there again amazing crafty friends!  It’s Lydia Cost today, and I’m thrilled to be sharing another project with you.  For this one I’m excited to share how to put together your very own quote journal, using the amazing Alice in Wonderland collection.  This collection is based on the ever so whimsical world of the Mad Hatter and Alice, so why not fill it with fun and inspiring quotes you love!

To create this little 4 x 6 book, you’ll need some patterned paper, a punch tool, an embroidery needle, and colored floss or embroidery thread.  That’s all you need to make a pretty bound book to put all your favorite sayings.   To start you’ll trim down your patterned papers into a 4 x 12” size.; I chose 5 sheets at this size to create my little book.  I like to back my cover sheet with the same pattern on the backside, so I make two 4 x 12” cuts for it.

After I backed my cover sheet with a matching paper, I chose to stitch it together for added appeal.  I then folded it in half to create my spine.  Since I only planned on having 8 internal pages, I really didn’t need to make my spine any larger.  I knew I’d bind it just like a traveler’s notebook.

Next I aligned my folded internal pages inside my cover, so that I could get an idea of where I’d like my binding to start and what design to choose.  Since it’s only a 4” spine, I went with an uncomplicated Japanese binding style.  I did four simple, even hole punches about ½” from the edge.  You’ll use your punch tool to poke in 4 holes along the spine for each section of pages and the cover.

Once I had my holes punched in each sheet, I used a curved needle to stitch up my spine and pages.  I decided on a pretty yellow baker’s twine that suited the color scheme perfectly.  You can stitch the spine any way you choose, but I like the pretty designs of many Japanese styles of binding.  They are so pretty!  After I finished stitching up my spine with my internal pages, I tied off both ends.  I chose to add a pretty little charm to the spine for even more fun; I even added a lovely blue butterfly from the collection.

All that was left was to decorate the cover with some of the amazing illustrations in the collection.  I fussy-cut this great illustration of Alice and a few butterflies.  For my title I used one of the Element Stickers, and then I die-cut some alphas from some great Carta Bella cardstock.

This little book will be the perfect place to add tissue paper typed quotes, snippets of things I rip out of magazines, and hand-written renditions of beautiful things I find in my beloved books.  It’s such a pretty little 4 x 6” place to keep all the words that inspire you.  I hope you guys have fun creating your very own.  Thanks again for stopping by to give my little book some love!

Alice In Wonderland No. 2 Layout

Those who don’t believe in Magic, will never find it! Hello friends, It’s Dorymar today with a lovely layout with the Magical Alice in the Wonderland Collection from Echo Park. My layout today is called – Wonderland and I used 2 photos of my oldest daughter from Halloween in 2011. 
To start I used a piece of white cardstock and made some splatters with blue and pink watercolors.  I reduced the Journaling cards paper and the white cardstock to 5”x 11” and adhered them in the front of the Tea Party paper. 

You can use any of the papers in this collection, but I wanted to focus more on the papers that match with my pictures.

One of the characters that I adore the most on Alice in Wonderland is the Mad Hatter and I had to include him in my layout. For that, I fussy cut the Mad Hatter from one of the multi journaling cards and with a foam tape I added him closer to my photos.

I wanted to incorporate large images into my project, so I fussy cut several butterflies from the Butterfly paper to make small clusters together with the die cuts and stickers to decorate my project. All together with my photos made the layout a magical one.
