It’s Lydia Cost today, and today I’m sharing a little inspiration in the form of a sketch! I sat down in front of the amazing America collection, and I couldn’t quite think of what sort of layout I was going to create. When I’m feeling in a creative rut with scrapbook layouts, I like to pull out my computer and play around with graphics. I fell in love with those paper rosettes on the “Independence Banners” paper, and I really wanted to create my sketch around it!
To create my sketch I borrowed that gorgeous paper and scanned it in! I then cut out the background with my editing tool. I instantly knew that I’d be copying that with some fussy-cutting onto my actual layout rendition. After finishing up the sketch on my computer, I printed it out and let it be my focus as I was creating.
I fussy-cut the bottom edges off the patterned paper, so that I could layer it on top of one of the great papers in the solids collection. It paired so perfectly on top of the cream sheet, but you could choose any one of the solid papers or subdued patterned papers. I fussy-cut to my heart’s content on those rosettes, and I think they make such a big impact on the top and bottom of my layout!
I honored my sketch as far as photo placement, but I decided I wanted to lower my title and add some hidden journaling instead the journaling below the title. I pulled off one of the amazing stickers on the element sticker sheet for my title. It was such a large impacted title for my crisp and clean layout.
Next I picked out one of the tags from the tags & frames pack, to add my journaling to. I tied on a long length of bakers twine, and then filled out my journaling on the backside of the tag. I arranged the twine on the page, so that I could loop it with a couple mini staples. I really love the whimsical look this creates, when you let the twine have some extra character.
I tucked my tag up under the top portion of my rosettes, so that I could hide my journaling in a pretty way. It’s easy to pull out whenever I want to look back on my journaling, or it’s a great interactive element for friends and family members.
I finished up my layout by tucking in some of those amazing florals in the collection. This really helps draw the eye onto the photos. It’s easy to get distracted with all that amazing detail in the rosettes, but those florals do a tremendous job at drawing the eye back in there too.
That’s it guys! I really hope that you guys will take the sketch and feel inspired to create with the America collection too! I know I had such a fun time creating it and with it, so I hope it sparks something fun in your creations too!
