Hi there, crafty friends! It’s Lydia Cost today! I love when it’s my turn to work on the project downloads, because that means I get to put together something extra fun for you guys! This one is a easy step by step tutorial on how to create this oh-co-fun basketball layout. The first thing I did was look through the Echo Park and Carta Bella design store, to find the perfect cut file of a basketball. I went with design 208973 , because it was the perfect basketball to split in pieces and make room for a photo. I enlarged it a bit, to take up a lot of space on my layout, and then I cut it out onto some brown chipboard. Brown or Tan colored patterned paper would work just as well, but I liked the thickness of the chipboard.
I then ran each piece through my sewing machine to add a stitched border to each piece of the basketball. I opted to not stitch the piece that would hold my photo. After I finished my stitched pieces, I chose the great gym floor patterned paper from the collection. I cut it down to an 8.5 x 11 size; it would act as the perfect background paper. I then arranged my pieces on my layout; this helped me get a good idea of where I’d like my other patterned paper shapes to go.
To fill out my background, I chose two coordinating papers from the collection. I cut them each down to the 8.5” size, and then using my curve tool, I made a wave on each piece of patterned paper. I varied each size of wave, among four pieces of patterned paper. I then stitched each one down onto the top and bottom portions of my layout. I really think the waves add an interesting detail to an otherwise simple layout!
Next, I popped all of my basketball pieces and photo up with pop dots and began sticking them down. I chose to place my ball in the lower right-hand corner of my page, so I would have plenty of room for my title and ephemera clusters. I created these ephemera clusters with element stickers, ephemera pieces, adhesive brads, and chipboard stickers.
To finish off my layout, I fussy-cut one of the great 4x6 journaling cards from the patterned papers. This one says “Basketball Rocks,” and it was the perfect title for my layout! After getting it all cut out, I arranged it along the wave at the top of my layout and at the bottom. I think the white title really ties in the whole layout! I finished up with some fun black paint splatters.
This layout was such a breeze to create, but I had so much fun with it. The basketball collection is perfect for documenting your favorite basketball memories. I certainly hope you’ll recreate this fun layout, and tag Echo Park because everyone here loves seeing what you create with your memories!
